Alastair Yates is a journalist and newsreader with the BBC, working on BBC World and BBC News 24. He was born and brought up in Burton upon Trent, and educated at the former Burton Grammar School.


Career highlights

  • Began journalism career with local BBC radio stations in Derby, Leicester, and Birmingham.
  • Debut TV appearance at BBC Midlands in Birmingham in 1978.
  • First presenter on Sky News in Britain in 1989.
  • Anchor - Deutsche Welle TV (Germany) in 1998.
  • Reporting career stretches from Independent (commercial) TV in the UK including Anglia Television's About Anglia in the East of England and Grampian in Scotland.
