A Quick Step-by-Step Guide To Users

If you would like to publish your memories or old photographs of Derbyshire on Bygonederbyshire:

Click create account. It’s free to do.

Log-in with your username and password.

To add a story:

Go to the ‘create a new article’ box at the bottom and enter the title.

Choose a category from the drop-down list, e.g. famous residents, and then click ‘create’.

Start typing where it says ‘your content here’ and then click ‘save page’ when you have finished.

To add a picture:

Go to the bottom of the page and click ‘upload image’.

Find your photograph in the picture gallery and click on it.

Click ‘edit’ to enter your caption and then ‘save page’.

To add a picture to a story:

Find the picture in the gallery and click on it.

Scroll down to the image instructions and choose either the code with a caption or the one without and copy it (highlight it, press control and then c).

Find the story you want to place the picture in and click ‘edit’.

Paste the code into the story (press control and then v) where you want the image to appear.

Save the page.

Adding Information and Comments

Above each article there is an 'edit' and a 'discussion' link. To add facts to an article click the 'edit' link at the top of the story and insert your information. Then press 'save page'.

To leave a comment click 'discussion,' followed by 'add comment' and 'save page when finished.

To see other people's comments click 'discussion.'

You can also leave a comment or ask a question by going to the forum.

Messages

To leave a message to a user about an article that person has submitted click the 'history' link at the top of the story. Now click on the username, and then 'discussion' followed by 'edit.' Enter your message. Then save the page. The user will see the message when he or she logs on by going to the 'My talk' link at the top.

History

You can see when an article was published and who submitted it to the site by clicking the 'history' link at the top of the story. Here you will also be able to see the changes that have been made to the article.

Watch

To keep a watch on an article that interests you to see if it has been added to or changed click the 'watch' link at the top of the story. Any additions or edits to that article will then appear in your watchlist at the top of the page.

Changing an Article Title

If you want to change the title of your story after you have submitted it, click 'move' at the top of the article. Enter the new title and click 'move page.'

Editing Code

All articles on this site, with the exception of stories previously published in the Derby Evening Telegraph, can be edited by registered users who can add information and copyright-free photographs and make changes to factual articles to improve their accuracy.

Please do not edit first-person accounts. People's memories of past events cannot be changed, because they are their recollections but you can make a comment, either by clicking on the discussion link that appears at the top of each article and then clicking on the 'add comment' link, or by going to the forum. We also ask you please not to use any profanities on this website!
